Product Review: Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation

It’s been months now since the introduction of the Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation. I saw a number of YouTubers that I watch review the foundation, and it was mostly positive with a few negative comments about how the foundation skewed a bit on the dry side. I ended up with a big sample of it in a Sephora order, and luckily, I managed a color match on the first go! I tried color 150, which is in the image below.

While I ended up with the same conclusion about the foundation’s behavior when interacting with dry skin, I absolutely LOVE it.

The first wear day for the foundation was an odd choice, as I then spent 5 hours cleaning out a storage unit with my husband. A true endurance test! By the end of the day, it looked a bit rough in my t-zone, but my cheeks that don’t have sweat glands looked good.

The next day, I tried again, as it was a normal day of going to the office and enjoying a climate-controlled environment. I noticed almost immediately that some small patches of my skin looked pretty flaky. I do not have dry skin in general, and certainly didn’t notice any of the tiny bits of my skin that were dry until after I put this foundation on. I had used primer, and I’m not sure if I just missed these spots or if they were already experiencing dryness. Either way, I wasn’t happy about this, as I was continuing to enjoy the excellent full coverage and the finish of the product.

The next day, I was very deliberate and thorough in my moisturizing and priming, and it definitely improved my experience. I didn’t notice any standout dry patches on my skin, and the finish continued to be amazing!

The biggest downer about the Fenty foundation is that I am suddenly disappointed with my ride-or-die Covergirl 3-in-1 Foundation. I have been back on my regular foundation in the past few days and it is not holding a candle to the Fenty Pro Filt’r.

I can buy 4 bottles of the Covergirl 3-in-1 for nearly the same price as 1 bottle of the Fenty Pro Filt’r, so I might buy a full-size bottle of the Fenty foundation and use it on days when I want to look extra flawless and amazing.

If you like a full-coverage foundation with a matte finish, I cannot recommend enough that you try the Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation. It is available exclusively at Sephora and on Sephora.com, for $34.

RiRi Loves MAC, The Waiting Line | Brand Experience Project

by Jamie Sanford on September 30, 2013

Click here for all posts in the Brand Experience Project.

While not being completely obsessed with any of the new items in the RiRi Loves MAC Fall collection, I decided to check out the MAC site when the items went on sale, to see how the experience would compare with last time, when a few new lipsticks were introduced. I left a window open for at least 2 hours during the last event, waiting to see if I could add a lipstick to my cart.

Today is slightly different, but no less insane.

Improved from last time, it’s made VERY clear that you are in line while online, and that you shouldn’t do anything but wait. The page does refresh from time to time to show you a new product, or a quote from Rihanna, etc. Good to know also that there will be a holiday collection forthcoming.

I am really interested to know about the decision-making process at MAC on how to handle these launches. Once I get in, will I have a time limit on my shopping? It seems like a good idea would be to implement a 10-minute shopping window, or at least a limit on how long items will remain unpurchased in the cart.

(I am still in line.)

I will give MAC credit for the following:

  1. The site isn’t crashing, and I’m assuming there are LOTS of people on the site, given how long I’ve had to wait.
  2. The reloading page with quotes, info, etc, is a good way to keep it fresh and to make everyone feel like they aren’t frozen and just don’t realize it yet.
  3. The products look really lovely and from what I’ve read about them, they are. Plus, the packaging is really gorgeous.

(You guessed it. Still waiting.)

There are only something like 10 items in this collection. How can I possibly still be waiting this long? Perhaps everything has sold out – although I would hope that MAC is prepared for a new onscreen message should that be the case.

If any of the tech team from MAC wants to answer some of my questions regarding the technical side of handling these launches, I would love to hear from them.

I would also love to hear anyone else’s ideas on how to handle such high-traffic launches of products online. What do you think?

[Update: Wait time is at 2 hours, 20 minutes, and counting.]
[Update 2: I was able to start shopping at about 2 hours, 30 minutes. About 35% of the items are sold out.]

Rihanna at the Izod Center (Photos and Recap)

by Jamie Sanford on July 25, 2011

Rihanna at the Izod Center

My weird streak of winning things on the internet continued when I got an email last week telling me that I’d won a contest on Idolator.com to win 2 tickets to see Rihanna during her New Jersey concert stop.  The tickets I won were VIP tickets so that my friend Craig and I watched the show from on the stage! They’ve added 2 areas to the stage setup where there’s a depressed section on each side for additional attendees, and we were in there.

DSC03941You can see here our VIP bracelets, and we also received the black bracelets after being carded. Unfortunately, it was for no other reason than we are both old enough to drink.

DSC03945DSC03976DSC04085DSC04102DSC04110DSC04167DSC04213We were wondering if we would have an encore surprise since Kanye West had appeared at Rihanna’s earlier show at Nassau Coliseum, but we had JAY-Z which was amazing.

DSC04267DSC04281Rihanna put on a great show.  She sings live, which I can get into.  She isn’t a major dancer, but she works it, and she cranks out the hits that everyone loves, and those are my favorite kind of pop shows.  Jay-Z was a really fun bonus.

The entire set of my photos (90 in total) from the Rihanna show are here on Flickr.

Thanks again to Idolator for holding this contest – I had a wonderful time!

Sights and Sounds #10

by Jamie Sanford on April 13, 2011

Sights and Sounds #10! I’ve been meaning to write one of these for a while but haven’t gotten around to it.  I had a nice set of posts already written so I haven’t written much – I’ve had family visiting and lots going on with that, etc, so I need to get back into the groove with writing posts.

Rihanna and Britney Spears created a remix version of Rihanna’s hot song “S&M.” Please let there be a video.

I am really interested in seeing Water for Elephants, if only because Robert Pattinson looks hot in the trailer.

I had this image saved from somewhere, I know it’s from Quotable Cards.  You can shop for the magnets here.

That’s enough for this time. See you soon!

Sights and Sounds #6

by Jamie Sanford on March 21, 2011

Sights and Sounds Number 6!  If you have any links or images to share, please let me know on the Facebook page!

Red Carpet Fashion Awards has a fabulous post covering all of Rihanna’s looks in the new issue of Vogue. I think she looks really stunning.

Blond Ambition 2Kobi Levi makes shoes inspired by animal, sex (literally) and pop stars. This Madonna shoe is accurate and fierce! (via MTV Buzzworthy Blog)

I like Britney’s new song, “Til The World Ends” and here’s a hot remix.

Beyonce and some SHOESI wish I remembered where I picked up this photo but come on, look at those Louboutins on Beyonce!  I can’t find them on the Christian Louboutin website, but I imagine that they are these Daffodile pumps but in blue – and those look like suede.

That’s all for today – will work on posting a bit more regularly this week!
